Ways to Practice Spelling Words
Think About Sounds!
  • Tap out the sounds in the word.
  • Use your spelling list to remind you how many letters you need to spell each sound.​​
  • What spelling patterns have we learned to make that sound?
  • Challenge yourself to spell a word with the same pattern that is not on the list. For example, if we are working on spelling ay words and play is on the list, try spelling clay or spray.
Stair Steps
  • Use graph paper or lined paper.
  • Line 1: write the first letter.
  • Line 2: Write the first and send letters
  • Keep going, adding one more letter each time until you have spelled the whole word.
